  • M1842 Defarb

I searched the forum and found some information spread across many threads. Can someone reply with a "punch list" on defarbing the Armi-Sport M1842 ? I would like to turn my M1842 Springfield into the Harpers Ferry version. JRA lockplate ? Stock recontoured or just strip and apply linseed oil ? I have never replaced a lockplate. Anyone know the involvement of replacing it with the JRA - Harpers Ferry lockplate ? I have never messed with the main or sear spring, etc...What is involved ? Any cartouches ? How do I remove the Italian stamps
    on the barrel ?

    Thanks !

    Re: M1842 Defarb

See this link for help on the lock http://www.usnlp.org/lockplate.html

This is for a 61 Springfield but should be almost identical to the M-42 lock. No differences you can't work around.

Do a forum search for markings or defarb or similar terms. Removal of barrel makings has been discussed in the past.
