  • Source for wheel caps

I seem to recall seeing a brown corduroy civilian wheel "mechanics" cap on a vendor's site just a week or two ago, but I can't remember what vendor it was. I am not seeing it on any of the approved vendor (although I might be just missing it) but I am pretty sure I found it from a link on this forum.

Does anybody recall seeing such a cap?

I know Chris and Kate Semancik have made them in the past, Mr. Daley might be able to provide some info.

I just got a real good one from Kate Semancik. I also have one on order from Chris Utley.

I also recently got a good one from Joe Blunt. He uses all of Joe Covies old patterns.

                  Re: Source for wheel caps

I got mine in trade from Mike Stiles. He used to sew for Orchard Hill and my business but has since moved out of Michigan and back to the Mohawk Valley. He did sell his patterns, materials, and tools to a guy in his old unit...according to Dan Wambaugh the new guy's work is out of this world. Once he gets going he may be able to tackle a wheel cap.

The cap that Mike made me was cut from original 1870's era rubberized cotton sateen, lined with brown linen, and features original Gold Era buttons. It's a thing of beauty....except it's so hot that after wearing it in the sun for a while the sweat dries and leaves behind salt crystals on the outside!!!
