    Were enfield stocks painted with mix of stain and lindeed oil or were they varnished as I read on earlier post here? JIM HENSLEY

    Hallo!

    Short answer, no...

    The imported northern Italian Walnut and later British Beech stocks were not stained.
    They were dipped in period boiled linseed oil (which is different than modern boiled linseed oil).
