Should trousers be worn over the boots for ceremonies?

As most of you know I'm putting a salute battery together the U.S.Army at Fort Dix, NJ. I recall reading that trousers were not bloused during parade ceremonies, of course now that I need the information I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.

Jeffrey, I am not sure about specifically in a ceremony, but I have been recently looking over lots of period photographs, and from these I believe that tucking your trousers into your boots in extremely over-represented in the hobby in general. While yes, they did wear them that way, it seems much more common, in all theaters of war, to wear your trousers over your boots.

Regulations says to wear the trousers over the boot, but in mounted service photographs you see both...

My opinion, ...from experience driving and working...
Wearing the trousers inside the boot was more practical for myself wear...as probably the men u see photographed.

As for parade... I guess its your call...
I havent seen many photographs of arillery on parade that was no a blurr.

ALWAYS wear your trousers over your bootees or boots for any ceremony or official muster of any nature.

IMHO, and in brief and to over-generalize...

There is always the "regulations," the "regulars," the "volunteers," "garrison/field/parade/campaign" considerations, "time and place, "unit," strickness/laxness of company and regimental commanders, individual mens' preferences, etc., etc.

But, according to the 1861 U.S. regulations.... page 479:

"All trowsers to be made loose, without plaits, and to spread well over the boot;..."
