  • Macrae Shirt Material

    Pards,
I was wondering if anybody knows a source for unbleached and blue wool flannel for the Macrae shirt that is in the NC Museum of History?
    Thanks,

I spoke to Mr. Tart earlier this year on another subject and the conversation turned to this shirt somehow. He doesn't expect people to pay the OUTRAGEOUS cost per yard it would take to have this produced.

He has to pay to have it made out of his own pocket and would have to charge accordingly to make his $$$ back.

I am wondering what the definition of "OUTRAGEOUS" might be in terms of dollars per yard. Also, I am betting that I am not alone!

Who'd have thunk that folks would pay $175 (was that the price?) for a CS imported Brit issue shirt? But several folks paid it!

So, perhaps the more accurate question is:
If the material can be made for $X/yard, are there enough guys willing to pay for a shirt made from that material (fabric + labor costs, etc.)?

          Mr. Wickett,

Per my conversation, it sounded like Mr. Tart was a little hesitant to have to put that much $$$ up front himself out of his own pocket but I could be wrong. That's the impression I got.

I was wondering too what the $$$ would be and would a deposit be required to secure some predetermined yardage? He couldn't go into too much detail as he was driving when I called and was in the process or running errands or picking up his children/family when I called.
