  • Button Source

    Hello All,

I am working on several sewing projects and need a source for buttons. I know of sources for military buttons, but am looking more for a source of civilian buttons. Bone, glass, hard rubber, and tin is what I am in need of. There was a vendor set up at September Storm(closest to the registration parking lot) that had a huge selection of buttons, but I can't remember his name for the life of me, if anyone remembers this fellow or could point me to another source, I'd sure appreciate it. PM me or email me at kmstetz@gmail.com

    Thanks,
    Kyle M. Stetz
    Respectfully,

John Zaharias of The Button Baron has just about any kind of button you could want. Unfortunately I don't have his info handy but I will post it when I find it if no one has chimed in already.

Both Mac and John are excellent sources for buttons, but are hard to get ahold of if you are reliant on the internet. For the more internet campers hit ebay and buy as many as you want. I see bone, glass and har rubber buttons on there all the time. Like anything though, watch what you are bidding on and you will be alright.

Mitch has a good point, those guys are hard to get a hold of and e-bay/antique shops are a good place to hit.

Another guy that's hard to get a hold of, but has an amazing collection of buttons is Joe Liesch. He sets up at the N-SSA Nationals twice a year and you can buy just about any style button for just a few cents each. He sells original military and civilian buttons for a fraction of what others sell them for and has a great selection too.

I don't think Joe has a website either...A lot of the times you have to track these fellows down if you are looking to buy things off of them. I usually See John and Mac places I had no idea they were going to set up at, or be at and hope they have stuff to sell with them.

As Beth mentions, some of us vendors have stashes we are willing to part with. I have small white bone and china buttons I'd sell as well as a wide variety of bone, shell, and horn buttons in a variety of sizes for civilian use. I purchased a huge lot on Ebay and will probably never use them all!! Please email me.

Zaharias does have a website that showcases the things he has on hand in bulk.
