Also recommend Letters to Amanda: The Civil War Letters of Marion Hill Fitzpatrick, Army of Northern Virginia excellent material.

Well, I am narrowing it down to enlisted men of both sides in both the Eastern and Western Theatre (with mentions of some of the soldiers that were farther west) from about 1850-1870 (the main concentration being the War years, but knowing what the soldiers did before and after the war is still important).
Now, I do have a long list here, but my question is, which ones share a lot of information on the life and thoughts of the soldier? If I could get help on which books on the expanding list we have here do that well, that would helpful to narrowing down the list. I hope that I can narrow down the list to 10 books that would be core sources, and then have the rest of the good books on a "supporting" list.

Sorry to bump such an old post but anyone who hasn't done so yet should check out "A Volunteer's Adventures" by John W. DeForest.
