    Newby Looking for Unit in Ontario, Canada

    Hello,

    I recently moved back to Toronto, Canada and I was wondering if there were any units here or nearby?

    I would very much appreciate any information as I am very interested in getting involved in Civil War reenacting and I was hoping to get involved with a good quality unit.

    Hi Ashley

    The ACWHRS are the only CW unit I know of in Toronto; I don't think they are Campaigners or even progressives though. I am in Windsor and belong to a unit in the Detroit, MI area. Wish I could be of more help than that.

      Ashely,

      The ACWHRS is one of the reenactment groups in the Toronto Area. There is also the 49th NY.
      Under the umberella of the ACWHRS is the 4th Mich. Co. C. which I have the privilage to command.
      Both the 49th and the 4th are indeed progressive units and some members are campaigners.
      You can, I hope, understand the need in a limited market to move in a progressive manner.
      The 4th is carefully crafting an approach and the 49th are striving for more accuracy. Both abhor farbism and are doing everything to escape the mould and are being more sucessful as time goes by.
      The 4th are new and less likely to carry baggage. The 49th are an established unit and are striving to acheive a higher standard, which I see they are doing well at.
      Choose either one and you will be in on a progressive movement.
      I would rather see you go to either than be lost from the hobby.
      PM me and I will give you my local contact info or forward the 49th's to you.
      Now I await the broadsides from the 49th.

        Hi Ashley,

        Having served under Major Simundson of the Queen's Own Rifles, I would admit he is a formidable officer. The 49th are a swell bunch of guys though! I am a member of the Columbia Rifles and the 49th and live in Barrie, Ontario just north of Toronto.           As Erik stated we are progressive. I also belong to the Columbia Rifles along with Brian and one other member of the group.

          The group has a great membership. We like to have fun as well as present an accurate picture for the public. Attending events in Ontario we have to make sure we are doing things the right way and accurately.
