  • Looking for an active campaigner unit in Indiana

    Hello,
I have been doing living history on and off since I was 15. I was away in Virginia for a while, got out of the hobby a bit, did a little CS stuff. Now that I am back in Indiana for good I am looking for a new progressive/authentic unit in the area that is fairly active. I just joined a mainstream unit with a few good authentic minded guys in it, but overall it is not exactly what I am looking for. Contact me if you are in the Central Indiana area and looking for new recruits. I have complete top-notch Federal and CS kits already, I have the right mind-set, just need to find some guys that are going to some good quality events this year.

    Best,

Clay weren't you a member of the Indiana based Tar Water Mess at one time? They are still around! Get a hold a Mark Mason, Matt Rector, or Paul Calloway.

I'm only aware of one other c/p/h group besides the Tar Water Mess (TWM) here in Indiana. That group would be the Pumpkin Patch Mess (PPM). Both the TWM and PPM make up the bulk of the GHTI. The GHTI also supports the WIGs.

The PPM (which I’m a member) is pretty flexible impression wise. We are primarily Federal but many of us have Confederate and civilian impressions as well.

As Mr. Herring pointed out another option for you might be the 4th VA. I know a few of those wags in the 4th VA and they are great fellers. Matter of fact myself and a few others from the GHTI will be beefing up the ranks of the 4th VA in May at Conner Prairie.

A few units and oddball messes here in Indiana are billing themselves as progressive but can’t manage to attend events other than Billie Creek Village, Morgan‘s Raid in North Vernon (which doesn‘t even come close to what actually occurred), or some other event such as the 15th Annual Blue Grass Festival and Civil War Daze shoot ‘em up in Buggtussle, Indiana.

Many of these messes actually are part of mainstream units, which in turn have an allegiance to the not so heavy history oriented umbrella organizations based here in central Indiana.

As Vince of Sham Wow fame says, “Beware of imitations!”

Hey Clay - we're still around. I was out to a few events last year.

I'll send you my phone # and we can chat.

Bugs is right... The camp of the Liberty Hall Volunteers at Conner Prairie will be quite the "One Stop Shop" of Hoosier progressives as many GHTI'ers will be falling in with the 4th VA at that event.

...and I oughta know as I'm a member of both groups! :wink_smil

Don't worry Mr. Young! I wasn't trying to convert him to the mainstream...I just sent him a pm about the PPM and GHTI. :)
