  • Looking for a Trans.- Mississippi Unit

    Hello all,
I'm looking for a good Trans.- Mississippi unit in the Trans Mississippi area, preferably somewear near the North East corner of Texas.

    Thanks,

Re: Looking for a Trans.- Mississippi Unit

In my opinion, the Texas Ground Hornets (15th Texas Co A), is the single most outstanding unit in the country with a primarily CS orientation. Outstanding means:

    1. Authentic (to a degree not normally seen)
    2. Creative (new ideas for events)
    3. Active (all over the country)
    4. Leadership (event sponsorship)
    5. Preservation (the western leaders in raising money)
    6. Fun (some characters and great comrades)

That may sound like high praise indeed but of the top 10 events (most authentic, challenging, interesting, fun, etc) I have attended in 21 years in the hobby, 4 were run by the Ground Hornets. Several others in that list were vastly improved by their presence. Not bad for a few real soldiers from the Trans-Miss.

    See their website here: http://www.geocities.com/Texasground...wpagetest.html

      Doug,
Such praise certainly will cause reconsideration of your position of the Ground Hornet list of Hate! But, dear Doug, you didn't tell the lad that we eat our young! By the way, that is the website from years ago. The new one is www.texasgroundhornets.com

I live in France, but if I had to live in Texas (god protects me from it):(:D:wink_smil (I joke) There would be "no photo finish" as we say in France... I would join this group, the question does not exist in my spirit, the answer is only evident :)

          Garrett,

          Sent a PM your way.

Don't worry about William- even though he's from France we never do events without him. He and his boys stay up and sing and laugh when we are pulling out broken down men bordering on hypothermia. They are building another statue as well. France already generously donated lady liberty to the US so the French mess is piecing together a giant yellow rose statue which will sit in Tom's yard.

          Kind regards,

William, you and the French Mess and any of the foreign legion that I have marched with at BGR and IPW would be most welcome! You all are some of the best soldiers I have ever served with.

Thank you for this compliment Tom, he speaks to my heart and to my soul, I am very happy of these bridges which we all built on the Atlantic Ocean, in the sharing, in the rain and the sun, in the enjoyment, as in the miles gone through sometimes by squeezing teeth in our internal pains, but always with the smile, the good word and the hand for the companion who walks less fast … Thank you also in this forum without whom all this sharing would not be possible!

                          Texas Ground Hornets.

I have had the pleasure to fall in with these men at Mansfield State Historic Site last year and it was one of the best experiences i have had in the hobby. These guys know the Trans Mississippi and my experience with them opened up my eyes to a whole theater of the war that i had not really given great consideration to until that point (everyone be honest, Trans Miss does not normally get the credit it is due) I hope to get another chance to fall in with them when i return to the U.S. this year. If you are looking for a group that knows there buisness, is a learning and mentoring organization, and is focused on "living history" then look no further than the Ground Hornets.

Fred/ Tom thanks for letting me fall in.
