We are the Acorn Boys Mess (33rd OVI), an authentic group of like-minded Civil War Living Historians from the Tri-State region of Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky, who represent the men that served in the 33rd O.V.I., 14th Army Corps, and the generic "Western Federal" soldier.
We strive in every pursuit to portray and represent these soldiers who endured the hardships and sacrificed their lives to preserve this great country.
So come along with us and help preserve the memory and the life of the western Federal soldier that served in the 33rd O.V.I., "The Acorn Boys", and live the life of that soldier who fought and died in the American Civil War.
"The Acorn Boys" Mess was officially re-organized in the Spring of 2005 by members of the 33rd OVI, depicting the life of the men that served in the 14th Army Corps-"The Acorn Boys".
These men were so named the "Acorn Boys" due to the poor supply lines of the Union Army of the Cumberland in Chattanooga, Tennessee after the battle of Chickimauga in 1863. The soldiers of the 14th Corps were forced to forage for food from local crops and nuts. After Gen. Ullyses S. Grant saw the men cooking acorns, the nickname of"The Acorn Boys" was forever etched into history. Today the soldiers of the "Acorn Boys" Mess take great pride in representing not only the men of the 33rd OVI, but all soldiers that served in the 14th Corps.
We are a proud memebr unit of the WESTERN FEDERAL BLUES
