  • Units in the New Orleans Area?

I am probably relocating to the New Orleans area come August as my girlfriend has just found out she has been accepted to Tulane for Graduate School.

I have minimal reenacting experience in terms of hours (owing to full-time work and school, as well as Division 1 athletics), but I have spent countless hours doing the research to formulate various impressions as something of a hobby of mine.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, and help this "fresh-fish" start off right, it would be greatly appreciated. I fail to see the point of conducting a improper impression and not taking pride in what you are attempting to recreate. (To what extent is possible.)

I thank you in advance for your help,

    William,

The Texas Ground Hornets prowl about a bit in the Pelican State and have members in TX, AR, LA, MO, and for about a year, Iraq.

One thing to note about the Trans-Mississippi is that there's probably a decent little drive involved to any event, no matter where it is.

Shoot me a PM if you care to get a bit more info.

    Kind regards,
    Fred Baker

      William,
The 16th La has a number of members in the New Orleans area. I came from there but have been away for the last decade with the Marine Corps. However, they are a great group of guys and I still drive many hours to get the chance to fall in with them a couple of times a year.

Not a member, but I'll plug for the Independent Rifles. Just did a LH at Vicksburg with them and they are good group of guys doing it right.

A fellow has to be pretty tough to be a Ground Hornet. They play hardball.

            William,
I second what Mike said, we do it right. We are a UNIT, we are not a group of individual Messes, we work, we play, we drill, we do everything as a UNIT. Come See, Sha.

Quoted for truth. Can't miss with the IR. Good impressions. Good research. Good guys.

Same goes for the TGH, but they have that Fred Baker character over there..... keep your hand on your wallet when you're around him.

                Dale,
All of the UNITS mentioned in this thread are UNITS and have UNIT MEETINGS, elected LEADERS and a company calendar.

                William,
Either route you go with your recruitment of the above listed groups, you will have a fine time.

The Texas Ground Hornets are not a Unit. We are a Mess. A real mess! We don't elect nothing. We have a Leader for Life that can be replaced by violent means when that leadership proves lacking. We seldom drill. We have no calender of events. Everything we do is a secret. I like the Independent Rifles 'cause they let Landrum be a leader and have a Jewish fellow named Tibodeaux. They also have a no alcohol policy which is strictly enforced. Can't go wrong with a Unit like that!
