  • Young, skinny recruit in central Alabama needs a mess

    Gentlemen,
I have a young acquaintance named Josh (17) who is in need of a campaigner mess. I know this young man through reenacting another period, and I would not hesitate to recommend him to any unit. He's smart, intelligent and motivated. He approached me some weeks back about wanting to get started in CW, and I spelled things out for him as best I could. He automatically stated that he wanted to get started right as a campaigner, and that he would really prefer to do Federal as he perceived a greater need there. (See how perceptive he is?)
I put him in touch with the Tick Creek Troublemakers since they do Federal, and are located nearby, but he has heard nothing from them yet. This young man has such good manners, he asked me not to say anything to them about it, feeling it would be too forward of him or rude to pester them. (I believe he has already visited this forum as well, but will not post because he feels to ignorant at this point, and just wants to luck and learn.)
Seems in talking to my friends since coming back to the CW fold, our numbers are sliding, and that the hobby, overall, is graying. I would hate for a motivated, intelligent teen who has not only an interest in CW, but an interest in doing it correctly as possible right out of the gate to be passed up by a good mess.
Is there a campaigner mess out there within decent proximity to central Alabama that would take this young man on?

PS: I would take him on, but I'm located five hours away from him.

        Warren,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. July has been a whirlwind of activity. Finalizing a wedding, family coming in, and the Honeymoon. I only now am able to catch up. Sent Josh an email with my contact info.

        Thank you,

Thanks Paul! Back in the day, I was a solo act down there. (It got awfully lonely being the only "hard core" much less the only hard core Federal in central Alabama back in the 80's!) Josh is in your neighborhood, and I'm certain he'll be an asset to your group.

If he is still looking for a good group we would be happy to take him. We actually have a small living history up his way next month. The majority of our membership are in their teens and twenties so he'd fit right in. Here is our site if he's interested http://libertyguards.webstarts.com/index.html

Thanks Aric, I think we've got him set up now, but I'll forward this along.
