  • Little Rock arsenal in search of full (flying) artillery crew

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, which is housed inside the original "tower building" of the 1840 U.S. arsenal, is in search of a full, authentic, artillery crew to portray pre-war U.S. regular artillery for a large, city-wide Civil War school day program in the Spring. The goal is to get every single 5th grader in the City of Little Rock to tour the various Civil War sites and museums in the city, with the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History being one of the museums on the tour (hard to not have us on the tour, when doing a tour of Civil War history). Because the arsenal in 1860 - 1861 was the post for the 2nd U.S. Artillery, Battery F, commanded by Capt. Totten, when the arsenal was surrendered to the State of Arkansas, this is the military impression that I would like to see portrayed for the kids. Therefore, I am in search for a quality, full-scale, autentic Federal artillery gun crew (or a full battery!) to come and do demos for City of Little Rock 5th graders. If you have a full team of horses to pull your gun and limber, great! Let us know what you would need from the museum to have your horses here. The arsenal building is surrounded by a 36 acre park (the orginal 1840 arsenal complex, now a city park), so there is plenty of space to park your trailers, drive your gun around on the grounds, etc.

Please contact me at the museum; (501) 376-4602, or via email at nclark@littlerock.org

    Thanks,

Boo Hodges and his boys were dragging their gun all over the battlefield at Prairie Grove. You may try with the 1st Fed Div initially. Good luck Nic.
