  • Saddle question....

    Me Fellow old saddle enthusiasts.......

I am researching an article on 19th century commercial and catalog saddles (as a means to identify patterns and evolutions) and humbly seek information on the following......

Kilgore Saddles: Were a popular post war catalog pattern. I am looking for history on this pattern such as place of origin, origin of the name, etc. I have reason to believe they pre date the Civil War but I cannot be sure. Does anyone have any history or information out there?

Somerset Saddles: Were these English in origin? I know they pre-date the Civil War but from where originated, by whom, etc.

Wagon Saddles: Non military patterns. I am aware of their background with Conestoga Wagons (hence the name) however, does any one have a source for this or of other commercial/catalog wagon saddle historical information?

Kentucky Spring Seat: I am aware of their invention by Eugene Minihan of Ky. but I am a bit unclear about the actual innovation he made to the tree. Apparently, he altered the old spring seat saddle tree for more flexibility but how? Anyone?

What about these patterns....Mosby, Shackleford and Granger? Anyone know anything about them?

In general, any background information on the above, especially with sources. However, while sources are obviously great they not absolutely necessary because anything would give me a line of investigation to pursue.

    Can anyone help?
