  • 6th Georgia Cavalry Regiment

I thought that I would share some information that you may find useful. This evening was the first day of the reunion of decendants of troopers of the 6th Georgia Cavalry Regiment. At our meeting room, one of the attendees had brought along records that he had found at the National Archives.

What I found interesting was the ordnance reports. In 1863, before the actually formation of the 6th, when it was part of Smiths Legion the officers reported a large number of .69 caliber Belgian muskets, some Mississippi rifles, Austrian muskets, and mention is also made of German arms as well.

In another source, I've read that the regiment also carried the P1853 Enfield rifled musket, as well as the Enfield carbine. I'm curious about the German arms, does anyone have an idea as to what they were?
