Getting the word out,The preservation march planned for the first weekend in Nov is a cavalry must! We have called this the Welbourne / Unison ride in the past, the scale is much larger this time. The Museum of the Confederacy is bringing out artifacts that may have been at the original battle! Public Demo Sat., then all else is for the participants! Pristine horse country, planned by cavalry, covers lots of ground, portrays the cavalry action of Nov 1,2 1862 on the same weekend, and all funds go to preservation. There is no downside. Anyone who wants authentic cavalry experience should be there. Tired of women on paint horses and pistoleeras? This is it. The 1st MAine is coordinating the federals cavalry, myself and John Sweeney are handling the CS cavalry. There is a large contingent of Fed Inf. as well. We welcome new people who may need loaner equipment as well.
    Sincerely,
    Todd Kern

    Re: cavalry event

Oh yeah and did I mention some of the folks are going on a fox hunt Sunday morning with me. No one who wants to be cavalry can say they are till they go with a real pack of hounds on a hunt (not the snotty slow hunts who make it a glorified trail ride but a hard hunting and riding group)! Hunting is where so many cavalrymen learned to read terrain, ride across broken country, communicate by horn, and react to your opponent. There is an advance, flankers, a main column and logistics column. You even take casualties! It is the closest the American continent will see to horse cavalry again.

        Gents,

I have to echo Todd's comments. For cavalry there is no better event out there at this time. The ground, the scenario, and the people involved are all top notch!

If you want to ride with the Federal cavalry please contact me ASAP. There are some rental horses available, but slots are filling up pretty quick.

        Take care,

            Re: cavalry event

            Todd and Tom ,
Just a short note . Thank you for putting on this event. I had great time riding with the 1st Maine this weekend. You fellas did what you said and did it well. I will be proud to ride with you again in the future.

            Tom,
Please accept my condolences for the passing of Bill King during the event. As it was said at the conclusion of the event. He died surrounded by his friends, comrades in arms, adopted family (1st Maine), fellow reenactors and on hollowed ground that he choose to support and save for future generations. Although it is sad, I believe it was a good honorable way that for a reenactor to meet his maker doing what he loved with whom he loved to spend time with. I was honored to have meet him over the weekend. Let us know where to send donations

              Jerry,

Thank you for the kind words. It was our pleasure to have you and your pards with us in the ranks this weekend. And I hope we all get the chance to ride together again. It was truely a glorious weekend, with a tragic ending.

I will keep everyone posted where donations, etc can be sent as soon as it is finalized.
