    Re: Saddle Question

Nick, Yea on the work saddles Gramps says that they had several army saddles "with fenders (skirts) on them" around the farm "most rotted down" he said they were either dark brown or black he said they were so old you couldn't tell... Since iron dyed leather looks brown over time and this would have been the 20's and 30's I figure 28's wouldn't have been that dark by then... TEH

Thanks but I really would like to find a unit close to the Raleigh/Durham area of NC. I have begun to make contacts finally (I was at the Bentonville LH this past weekend) but I do not have the eye to tell when I am looking at an authentic cav unit.

Sorry Barry but there is no authentic cav in Carolina anymore. Especially not at bentonville. We'd still like to have you though.

Here's things to look for that are clear farb indicators for cav; brass heart breast straps, stampede strings, gauntlets, pistols, cowboy hats, tents, chrome buckles and bits, paint horses and women, fat (or any men) who can't ride and hang on by the reins....
not to mention the finer problems of all federal equipment, boots, uniforms, leather....

As always I remain very tactful,
