  • Carbine Slings

I looked at some old discussions on carbine slings but didn't see much info on who is producing the best carbine sling out there now.

Who on the marke is producing the most correct federal sling right now?

I know Burgess had the best snaps at one time but they are no longer in business. Is there another source for snaps since I am not to keen on some of the repros I see out there.

    Thanks,

Although Nick doesn't appear to have these listed on the website yet...I'm sure it's not far off!!!

Darn I talked to Nick the other day and didn't even think to ask him about those.

I saw the original snaps at S&S but what are their condition and is it safe to carry an original snap into the field? Anyone ever bought one from them, they seem to be about $120 now?

EJ Thomas is the heir to Burgess and Co.
EJ Thomas also has a supply of those Burgess snaps and also some original snaps.

When I returned the shoes, informing him that my soldiers did not wear pontoons, he insisted that I should take them and issue them to my company anyway. Well, I didn't do it: consequently the row."

            Group,

The S&S snaps are in nice shape! As far as being safe to use in the field, they are by no means rare and very sturdy. There is a safety issue if you are thrown from your horse while wearing the sling, and the carbine is secured in the leather boot. I guess S&S raised there prices.

Talked to Nick a while back, he was getting some snaps forged, should be done soon as I recall.

The repro snaps Nick is having made are so darn close to the originals, he is having them marked with his name to prevent future misidentification. I have seen the prototype and is virtually indistingushable from an original.

As Matt stated Bill at E.J Thomas has a box of original swivels for the detail minded reenactor who goes for those little touches, he also has the repro Burgess swivels as well. If people are worried about the correctness of the swivel why not just spend the extra money and use an original, at least in that case you know you will never need to upgrade it down the road. I know Bill also currently has a sling in stock ready to ship.
