    Re: hardware supplier

I don't know of anyone in TN that supplies any authentic hardware for CAV use. I might be wrong though. I do know that Nick Duvall and Glenn Pier depot both have good items with good hardware .You might give them a call. I have from time to time taken a piece to a black smith to have them make something ,but that has been years ago.

        Joe,
Doug Kidd will sell you his cast hardware, but it is expensive. Shawn's Custom Saddles out of TX sells hardware, but I have no idea what the price is or how correct it is. S&S Firearms has some limited hardware items, (all sizes of correct roller buckles) priced reasonably, nice people to deal with.
Hope this helps, see you at Resaca next month !

Beware of Shawn's custom saddles hardware having owned one of his complete outfits it is all mainsteam quality. Mostly brass hardware when it should be iron. It might have changed but I would be careful.

Bingo, nice guy but I returned my complete kit upon inspection and Doug Kidd got me the right stuff in 1999 at the Chick A Dusty.....10 years of hard riding and it's still going strong!

Before I got into reenacting....my in laws lived behind the Burgess house/shop in Red Bank New Jersey. I mean literally back to back yards.....little did I know that they made the finest reproduction saddles bar none.

Owning a Burgess saddle (made by Frank Burgess himself) I can say that his work was decent but not the best "bar none." Thanks to guys like Nick Duvall, John Tobey, Coley Adair etc, the standard of what is a good repro saddle has moved considerably forward in the last five years.

              Take care,
