  • Circingle repair

I have a good webbing circingle that had a weak spot in it for a while and finally tore thru.
Anybody got any experience on repairing them? I'm thinking to overlap it and hand sew the crap out of it.

    Re: Circingle repair

    Hi Pete,

If you use some good gut or sinew and if you sew at least three rows it should hold up. Did it tear near one of the ends where near the leather or somewhere in the middle? Also, is the webbing still strong everywhere else?

I don't know that I would use gut or sinew. I'm not sure how those materials will hold up to horse sweat etc. I would use well waxed 4 or 6 cord linen thread. The rest of the surcingle was stitched with it so it should be up to the task.

Pete , I think you might want to repair this (Surcingle)not circingle.

I'm with Mark, trim the raw, torn ends, hand sew three rows with waxed linen thread, it will be a correct field repair.
          Good luck !

            Re: Circingle repair

I'm thinking I'll sew the Sircingle, Thanks Jerry, for correcting my spelling while partially intoxicated with waxed AND sinew, I have both. It tore just about in the middle. If it were near the end I'd just resew the leather. The rest is in good shape, it had the tear when I got it, don't know the origin.
I'll probably run 3-4 rows across, and put a light loop stitch, don't know the correct terminolgy, on each cut to prevent unraveling.
            Thanks for the input.
