  • Two Surcingles ?

I have read online, but can't support it was a common period practice ?

My intent is to ride (relative use of term ride) hold on to the "Patent" style Jenifer, English Rigged (Single) with the slot for the surcingle in the skirt. (No crupper or martingale)

Maybe one around the saddle/horse one rigged as a brest strap?

Guy has used one as a breast strap for years. Too short for my stock...

If I rode a Jenifer I would use the surcingle the way it was intended to be used on the Jenifer. Those saddles seem a bit "slippy" to me but then I've never rode one much other than to try one out a couple times. If you dont need a breast strap on your horse ( I imagine not in Florida) then I wouldn't use one at all and just go with the one to help hold the saddle in its proper place.

        Just my opinion however,

          Woah ! Critters everwhar !!!

Definately will use the saddle as intended and I don't need a breaststrap or crupper as I am just really looking to go out for a ride in the am and a perhaps a sundowner. Ultimately do some FL Cav Living History at the suckfests here locally. I have a fair amount of research on my GGGGrandfather and two uncles 2nd FLA CS Cav unit and put together the kit and research to convey the story of the considerable mounted doings of this unit, which struck fear in FLA garrisoned Federals and even captured an underway US Warship in the St John's River.
