    Re: WOW! Shotgun cartridge box-Original

This is the type I have reproduced as these are what have been found (well the wire remnants of them) at Val Verde, NM. and other campaign areas.

This link will take you to a history of the Eley's as well as Jenour's patents on shotgun cartridges. Make sure to use the link at the bottom which takes you to the leaflet information with loading instructions as was sent with the cartridges.

Cool! Thanks Rae I believe that is the first I have ever seen of a actual shotgun cartridge of the period.

Also thank you Mitch. out here in da boondocks I often forget about gunshows since there are never any around here but there are several that make their way around Georgia. I will try and hit one up next time and pick up a couple extras.

      thanks

        Hello Jeff
Although they weren't that common over here, there were some about.
As a boy in the mid-north of South Australia , I remember Mr Dunn one of our neighbours on an adjoining property had a 10 gauge double, a huge thing for a kid my age!

He called it a "shunt gun" (a "shunter" being a locomotive) and the scatter at 50 odd yards had to be seen to be believed. His son Allan would have taken it over some time years later I'd say.

        Cheers

Glad to oblige. Seems that the link did not show up or was removed. Either way, the info I provided will give you enough to search further. They are very easy to make/use.

I googled Eley's Patent Shotgun Cartridges and came up with this:

Very interesting to say the least.
