grimsley saddles

[U.S Dragoon]

Hello, I have been searching for info on the 1847 grimsley “Dragoon “saddle , but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find much and what I have found was brief, is there any really good info on this saddle; as there is for the mcclellan saddle, I have found more than enough info on the mcclellan !!! and secondly, I was wondering to the period correctness of a enlisted man using a grimsley saddle during the war on both union and confederate soldiers?

I would suggest you read up on the Grimsley. The American Military Saddle 1776-1945, would be a book I'd suggest first as a great point to start from. I've found the book Man Made Mobile handy. Another I'd suggest is Confederate Saddles and Horse Equipments. Steffen's Horse Soldier and his saddle books are good in some areas too.
Society of the Military Horse may be a forum to look into.
