Re: D-Guard Bowie in Cavalry Kit?

Townsend makes 2 nice "trade knives". I'm carrying one these days. Traded my first away to a fella, bought another. He's a Rev war sutler, somebody throw up the website or I'll find it. I make my own sheaths, as I carry them at an angle across the small of my back. 4-5" blade, rough steel blade, not stainless, Hold an edge well. Grips vary with each in my experience.

      Is this the guy?

Some pretty cool stuff there! And much more useful than a D-Guard machete...although not so martial-looking

      Thanks!

Re: D-Guard Bowie in Cavalry Kit?

Okay, just to close this out...I have concluded that a D-Guard Bowie is out for the day to day kit of a trooper. However, I did come across a very nice, decent size (12" overall with a 6" blade) jen-yoo-whine CW bowie that was supposedly hand made and carried by a Tennessee Confederate soldier during the war...nice horn handle, heavy blade, brass half-guard. A new sheath I hand sewed myself out of an extra length of accoutrement belt (got the holes in the fingers to prove it!) and it sits just right on the belt! I attached a picture with the original sheath that has an old repair.

It works for me, is a usable period piece...and besides, I couldn't help it...always been a knife guy!

Thanks all, for your advice, input...yes, and even opinions!
