  • 1st VA Cav help

Researching my great great grandfather who rode with the 1st VA Cav, Company H.

Where can I find good quality photos of re-enactors of this Cavalry especially from Manassas or Cedar Creek?

Why would a soldier from the 1st VA have a "Member Forrest Cavalry" badge?

Is there any resources other than the Robert Driver book that detail their engagements?

    Thanks,
    Calvin Jenkins

    Re: 1st VA Cav help

Well, since no one else wants to wade into this black hole I will make a feeble attempt.....

Calvin, Forgive me here but while I understand that you are seeking information on your g.g. grandfather (I applaud that!) I am doubtful that we can be of much help to you. Perhaps I misunderstand your intentions but I believe your questions might better be answered "first" through a GOOGLE search and then "second" through the search functions and opportunities available on other sites and forums. I do not wish to be harsh but you see, the primary purpose of this forum is to discuss the details of CW cavalry purpose, history, material culture, horses, etc., etc. as it relates to highly authentic reenacting and/or historical research. Two of the three questions you pose are either outside that purpose or rhetorical.
I am sorry if I/we appear condecending (it is not meant to be so) its just that this forum is not the best place for you to find the answers to your questions. Good Luck!

Mr Jenkins- I sent you a PM, with info on how to obtain service records for your ancestor.
