  • CS Bridle Rosettes??

Found this recently in my collection of artifact photos. We are not certain these are legitimately Confederate. They are crudely made, show signs of age, are lead backed in the period style and have a period "CS" script. They were picked up at a CW show from a dealer who (thankfully) made no claims about them and there was no documentation accompanying them.
To my understanding, the Confederacy did not mass produce rosettes as an issue item (I have seen no record of them in arsenal inventories) although most certainly some of unknown type would likely have been made for private purchase as were other decorative items of personal use. In addition, few if any other Confederate rosettes with legitimate claims have been found elsewhere so we have little to compare them to. So, in summary they are intriguing but with no supportive documentation- thats all they are.
Anyway, thought I might share this. Best,

You gotta sometimes think, would any self-respecting Confederate Cavalier put something that crude on their bridles? Wow! now that's primative!

Hey I would put those on one of my bridles in a second, crude or not, but then, my name is Patrick and I have a bridle rosette addiction.
