  • Are these legit?

Saw these on Ebay today, they look pretty interesting. Is it possible that they're civillian saddlebags? I've never seen this style before.

    Re: Are these legit?

Andrew, I'd say it's possible that they are saddlebags... So far as being CS or even period, I wouldn't pay the opening bid. Some E-bay sellers try to tie everything to the CS. I've seen 1904 style saddle bags being billed as " possible CS saddlebags". Those were clearly marked with the US stamp. Some folks really thrive by the PT Barnum "There's a sucker born every minute". I'd guess that they are from early to mid 1900's, but I do like the "hidden" pocket under them. Check with Ken, he knows waaayyy more about CS stuff than most. Thanks for passing them along, TEH

I wouldn't pay that bid either, to rich for my blood. I also thought that the pocket underneath was pretty neat. Like you, I am also leary of them being confederate. I have seen more than one style of confederate saddle bags, but these don't seem to match any of them. The other thing I found odd was that the tops are leather, but the rest is canvas. Why not just make the entire bag out of canvas?

        Re: Are these legit?

When I went to the listing the item had been removed. Which may suffice for your answer. Zack is right. Ebay is "buyer beware" in capital letters. Now, for the opportunity to see some real legit Confederate items will be in your backyard in two weeks...the upcoming CW show in Franklin.
