Folks,
Here is a little book that some of you might be interested in obtaining for Christmas, for yourself .... !
Do you like horse related artifacts? Want to expand your knowledge? Have you ever noticed something in an old barn, at an antique store or on display at a museum and wondered....”what is that?” or...What was that used for?” Well, if you ever said that or, if your generally just interested in “old stuff” then this is the book for you......
”Simon Says......Curry Combs and Other Horse Stuff...Also Other Stuff”
This is a unique book among the many that display artifacts. While it tends to emphasize 19th and early 20th century horse related items it is chock full of so many other common farm and early pioneer items that I cannot adequately describe it for you. It contains multiple variations of civilian and military .....spurs, mane combs, horse brushes, hoof picks, picket pins, bridle bits, bridles, stirrups, horse mane shears (hand held and the gas kind for burning manes), dozens of saddle soap tins, leather blacking and oil tins, axle grease tins and snuff tins, veterinary tools and implements, blacksmith tools, lariats, buggy steps and tools, branding irons, shoeing tools, horse/mule and oxen shoes, horse tether weights (for buggy’s) and lots and lots of curry combs (and so much more).... Over 300 COLOR photos with descriptions!
This photo book is a short list of a life-long compilation of “stuff” gathered by 80 year bachelor cowboy, poet and rancher/farmer Edgar Simon of Owanka South Dakota. Edgar is a unique individual to say the least and this book tells you a bit about him too. His family pioneered his homestead where he still lives, raises cattle and farms. An old cowboy from the old school, most of these items he grew up with, has used (and still does) or remembers what it was used for.
Several years ago he self printed and published this little book. I have had the privilege of knowing Mr Simon and using his knowledge and his book in my research. Be aware it is not a professionally written or produced book but don't let that bother you. It is full of good, clear color photos on high quality paper stock but..... you cannot get it at book stores, on Amazon or anywhere else but from Mr Simon. If you collect things like this or just want a good reference source for the above type items write Mr Simon at the address below (I suggest you don’t call him. He is VERY hard of hearing and does not believe in hearing aids. Nor computers so he also doesn't face book, email or twitter. Doesn't know how and does not want to learn.). Just send him a note and a check. You will get your book. The cost of the book is $50 (includes shipping). A bit pricey I know (he self prints them) but it is a rare and unique composite reference tool that you will enjoy, find useful and.....it will not be available forever. So, get one as soon as possible. Its worth it!!

PS: I have no vested interest in the sales of this book other than to share it with others.
