Gentlemen,
I am pleased to announce the 2011 Cavalry Camp of Instruction (COI) March 17-20!!!..... Are you planning on attending?........
The flyer for the 7th Tennessee Cavalry’s annual Camp of Instruction (COI) held again this year at the historic Carnton Plantation in Franklin Tennessee is posted below. As you will see it is planned to be a spectacular cavalry event that will significantly exceed last year! Expect a very full “three day” weekend of riding and educational schedule that includes 14 instructionals on period cavalry topics, 9 sessions of mounted drill interspersed with the authentic cavalry vignettes.
For those attending you WILL LIVE like a Confederate cavalryman in the field of 1863 with a cavalry specific “bivouac” living history campsite, all activities done in military order by bugle call.... mounted and dis-mounted drill, “School of the Trooper”, Ordnance Inspection, all food (period rations), ammunition, pay, etc. will be issued in period fashion, assignments of night picket, mounted videttes and other routine cavalry camp duties. Learn from fourteen special cavalry oriented educational programs in.... period horsemanship & horse care, mounting/dismounting, fighting on foot, sabre drill, bugle calls, saddlery, clothing, weapons, accoutrements, ammunition, authentic food, doing an authentic Federal impression, packing for the light marching order campaign, first person and more! We will even have an authentic Sutler on site!
SEE: Two exclusive, “Special Presentations” that include original artifacts!! Confederate Uniforms by Myers Brown from the Tennessee State Museum and..... US/CS Leather & Accoutrements By David Jarnagin!
Want to ride, drill, live and learn authentically with a “full” company of mounted cavalry? Last year saw nearly 60 mounted participants. Interest this year already suggests we will significantly exceed that number! Maybe 80 mounted or more!! Two mid-war companies?!
For those considering attending this event the hosts urge you to quickly get your registration form in. DEADLINE: March 1st! We must have an accurate count in order to have enough food and special amenities on hand. Only a $15 Registration Fee!
Time is of the essence!! Contact us now for a Registration Form..............
Mark Choate at choatecav@aol.com
Once received, a “invitation” will be mailed to you with full itinerary, event details, maps/directions, etc. There will be NO WALK-ONS!!
If you do nothing else in cavalry reenacting this year, I strongly urge all mounted cavalrymen to seriously consider attending this event. Thank you!
PS: Testimonials from last year's experience are encouraged....
