I just posted some new artifact photos to the web site (www.confederatesaddles.com, See Photo Galleries, See CS Uniforms) but thought I would share a few of them here. Some of these were taken at the Nashville CW Show in Dec 2010 others are just "pick-ups" from various sources. I really like the sword belt grouping with the holster, cap box, etc. I think these have some fuzzy Texas origins but not much information about them. Anyway, a very interesting set of what would probably be a rather typical, mid-late war issue and hodgepodge type set. I love the "pieced together" leather and hardware on the sword belt!
The uniform pants are the only known (that I am aware of) pair of quasi-official State of Mississippi issue trousers. The state of Miss. regs authorized a uniform that was widely adopted although fudged a bit in many quarters. These trousers are an example. Apparently William Morris, Co. D, 38th Miss Inf., was issued these early in the war. Wore them at the battle of Shiloh then the sige of Corinth but came home shortly after- never to return to the war. Although used after the war (according to the family) they survived (as did quite a bit of the family's war time and post war clothing). Its hard to see but note the double black (?) stripe down the pant leg.
