I need to know the description of the rawhide used to cover confederate saddle trees in its finished form. I am interested in its finished color. Did they actually "bleach" rawhide...I find that odd given their time and material constraints. Would natural have been more likely? Secondly, did the varnish darken the color of the rawhide, or were most trooper seats even varnished?
