  • Shiloh 2012...

Guys, Matt Woodburn posted in the event section that...

"Once we receive word that we're needed at the front, we will make a five mile march on the original battlefield to the actual event site where we will fall in under the First Federal Division (FFD). Terry Crowder who is the current leader of the FFD has graciously offered to send us a cavalry escort and a wagon with water for our march."

We should seriously consider getting together for this! I've sent messages to a few of you about it. The escort should be made up of A/C guys not mainstream guys... Don't get me wrong I like Terry and I'm not bashing him or his guys, they have been nothing but nice to me over the years. BUT, authentics should escort the authentics! Let's show them what AUTHENTIC cav looks like...

    Just my 2 cents... Z

I'm in total agreement with you Zack. It is also past high time that we all get coordinated ourselves for the remaining years of the 150th events. I know some things are being coordinated already, and other things are in the talking stage, but we all need to come together ASAP to make the most of our upcoming opportunities.

            Gentlemen,

As you have a decent estimate of interest/numbers for this, please get it up the chain of command to Terry Crowder.

We've already designated a number of well separated camp areas with specific interest groups in mind. The core group will again be on site for a work weekend over Memorial Day. It's always helpful to know numbers and needs early.

If you guys can't pull this together i wouldn't sweat it too badly. All things considered, Crowder's boys did a fine job at TAG a few years back.

                          Re: Shiloh 2012...

Mike, Letting Terry do it is okay... But that's the whole point. The Western Brigade, Holmes Brigade or numerous others could do the entire event, boat ride and all... I've said I get along well with Terry and I respect them all. They did do a fine job at TAG I was there too. The point is for the authentic minded to support the authentic minded. If this detail is to be assigned to the authentic contingent, those of us who want to be a authentic campaigners should try to support the authentic who campaign. To me that includes the infantry supporting the cavalry and in this case the cavalry (us) supporting the infantry (Matt and the guys)... It's a year out surely we can get a dozen guys in the saddle for it...Z

                              Hello Gentlemen,

Just got back in from Louisville and Derby Day was fairly kind to me this time. Beautiful event and setting for sure.

Regarding Shiloh, there are some "behind-the-scenes-things" that I would like to discuss with some of you in a venue separate from the Cav Forum or the PM's. I think it is important that all of you of the cavalry persuasion know of this and plan accordingly. I have discussed a small portion of this informally with a couple of you, but would like to communicate via email if you don't mind.

As such, those who have an interest in the 150th Shiloh, I would ask that you email me at choatecav@aol.com and once I get a list built up, I will pose some options to you. Also, if you know of others who may not be on the A/C or have internet access, but yet would be interest, please list their names and you can serve as a conduit for the information and pass it on.

                              thank you all,

                              regards,
                              Mark
