    Tom,
That jennifer is the first thing I noticed in that picture. I think this picture has been discussed before with regards to the Feds having a Jennifer saddle. I went back and looked when you mentioned the other horse. I am wondering if the horse moved when the photo was taken. Look at the size of his head compared to the size of the man. The horses head looks like it is half the man's body. If he didn't move, he is a huge mount.

Here are some larger detail shots. That trooper on the left is really small. Look at how big his saber belt buckle is in relation to his body.

        Dave,
Thanks for providing those blow ups! Now I can see that the trooper on the left (with the really tall horse) also is sporting a Jennifer on his horse. Cool!

I wish I could find the thread that discussed this picture before because part of the discussion was about these saddles. Does anyone remember the title or the thread so I can refresh my memory. The saddle both look to be officer saddles but I can't remember if the thread discussed if these were CS saddles or Federal Jennifers. The one looks like it has brass around the pommel and cantel like a Fed. officer Mac. I don't want to hijack this thread, but the blow up pictures really show those saddles well.

            Rob,
I honestly don't recall the previous discussion on this picture, but perhaps someone with some time can find it.

I had the same thought about those being officer saddles, based on the horse on the right of the picture, with what appears to be sun glinting off of a brass surround on the seat of the saddle...however, if you look at the other saddle, there is no shine, and it looks to me like both saddles could have some sort of leather finishing in the seat of the saddle, with the edges being left rawhide. I have no way of knowing either way, and my knowledge of Jennifer's is decidedly lacking, so I could just be talking out of my arse on this one...

I really think they are the same style saddle with one having wooden hooded stirrups and the other with metal stirrups. I think the light edge on the one saddle is the same brass edge that is clearly seen in the other. Cool photo no matter what.
