  • Wrapping a cavalry bugle?

This question may have been answered somewhere, so I apologize as I am new to the forum. That being said, I have a bugle and a cord, but am completely lost as to the proper way to wrap the cord correctly for cavalry service. Any suggestions?

    thanks,

    jim

    Re: Wrapping a cavalry bugle?

    Hi Jim,
    Welcome to the Cavalry forum.

A couple of rules to note. First, you must sign every post with your first and last name. A good way to do that is to set up your signature portion under your settings. Next, when you are new, it takes about 10 approved posts before yours go in direct. I will approve this one and see if we get an answer.

One last thing, it will save a lot of time and get you faster information (not to mention keeping the forum uncluttered) if you use the search engine for questions that you have prior to posting the question. There is a wealth of information stored here and it is a wonderful tool.

Again, welcome to the Cav forum!!

    regards,

      Jim,

I did a search on "wrap bugle" and found this thread.

There are a few different things you might want to try. First off what type of bugle are you using? I found generally the longer the bugle the more cord you are going to need. Some bugles were not “wrapped” other were and did not have a braided cord. With that said, it totally up to you as to want you would like to do. I use an Armiti b flat bugle. I ended up using 3 cords. The first cord I used was one I bought off RJ Samp. They are much longer than the ones you see sold at most sutlers. This one I used as my cord. I tied off one end to the cord loops that are attached to the bugle. Then I braided the cord using a “triple braid” I have a link on “You Tube” with an excellent video on how to make it. I have the direction and starting it is a bitch! The other 2 cords I sewed together to make on long cord. I took off the tassels as I have them on the end of my cord. I tied a half hitch just in front of the first turn of the bugle near the mouth piece and wrapped the bugle from there to the turn under the bell. I did this because it seems that that part of the bugle tends to get dented the most when I ride. I tend to have the cord a bit “too” long as most buglers during the war kept them pretty short and the just hung in the middle of their back. I have mine long enough that I can have the cord on and bugle while mounted. I also have a link of myself and how my bugle looks. Hope this helps.

        Good Luck
        Ken

            Ken and all,

As I stated above (just after Jim's initial post), you must sign your full name when you post. It is a foundational rule on the forum.
It might be prudent for you and Jim to take a look at these rules for posting on the forum. Please go to this link:

What Mark left out is that you can set up your "signature" under the profile options too. That way when you post, it's done for you and those pesky mods will leave you alone... Just ribbin' you Mark. Look forward to doing Johnny with you all again soon. Z

                  Re: Wrapping a cavalry bugle?

Thanks for the advice. I had found a good U tube site via a google search, but was curious about how the cavalry buglers actually did it. Sorry about not signing my full name, I realized that after I sent the post.

                  Thanks again,
