  • Nice Image

I found this while looking for something completely different. Looks to be another enlisted man with Grimsley saddle and valise ?

    Hey there, Paddy.

    How ya been??

Great image and I wish I had had that about six months ago. I agree with your assessment of the saddle and valise. Notice that the Grimsley has hooded wood stirrups rather than iron or brass.

    thanks,

I don't think that's a Grimsley, unless there is a grimsley pattern Mac.

True, I had to zoom in on the image but it does look like a mac too me. It's quaterstrap rigged and the cantle looks more like a mcclellan than a grimsley.

Hi Mark, I am well thanks for asking. Staying out of trouble which, of course, is a full time job for me....

Yeah, it may well be a covered Mac. Zack seems to think so and I did not know he already had this image. I could not decide for myself hence posting for the masses to decide for me. I am afraid my eyes are going downhill rather quickly and it is getting harder and harder to see details in these old images even with the spectacles on ! I like the image at any rate and having a strange obsession with saddle valises, I thought it worth seeing for that if no other reason.

I'm betting he's a ossifer... I've been wrong before, just ever time I see the image I get skittish like there's one around fixing to make me do something... ;) Z

To my eye, that's an officer's valise on the cantle. And, I see no pistol holster, cartridge box or cap pouch.
