  • Cavalry Camp of Instruction Forum site!

    Gentlemen,

On behalf of Ken Knopp and myself, I want to announce the launch of a new Cavalry forum. It is located in the Auth. Discussion portion, just next to this forum and it is called the Cavalry Camp of Instruction.

Without question, the toughest job that Ken and I have is the balancing act between those questions and discussions of the "grizzled veterans" and those of the entry level beginner (or just basic learning questions in general) and everything else in between. Both have a place and both are of value, but they mix like oil and water. Therefore, thanks to the support of Matt, Paul, Justin and Tripp (the Big Bugs) we have the Cavalry COI forum for the more basic, learning questions which should free this forum up for the heavier discussions. There will be more steps in this project of "all things cavalry" and they will be rolled out very soon, but in the mean time, if you have a question that is basic, yet valid, then post it there. If you have a short level of patience with such questions, then stay off of it. Conversely, do not post these basic items on this forum as they will be moved. Now that we have these two avenues and can "gee" and "haw" as needed, we will be less tolerant of deviations and will move or instruct as needed.

This new forum, as is the case for the one that I am posting on now, is for YOU, the cavalry historian and we hope that you will use it and that we all will benefit from it's creation. Again, our thanks to the "Big Bugs for their support! Watch for more to follow.......

    regards,
    Mark

Thats good news. This should give some incentive to those who may or may not have had something snapped off when they asked basic questions previously. I know I've got a few...

Mark, I like it! Seriously good idea. Is it possible to have informational headings such a "The Generic Western Federal Cavalry Impression"? That way we could list items that were issued and reasons why or why not to carry said items? Also alternate items such as brogans vs. boots or forage vs dress hat, etc.? I like the idea of this forum a new guy can start here an progress to a higher standard.... Z

Thank you fellas, for the positive feedback. There is more yet to roll out and Bro. Knopp will be posting some of the other criteria very soon. (Life is interfering with our hobby, :wink_smil).

Zack, your ideas are very good. At this moment, I am not sure how we sub-divide the camp of instruction forum into categories, but we can ponder on it with those more in the know. In the mean time, remember that it is your forum and to use it wisely. Remember, "Friends don't let friends go Farby."
