  • Calling Federal Cavalry for Perryville

    Hey Gents,

Now that the 2011 season is winding to a close, it's time to start thinking about next season. I have been asked by the organizers of the Perryville event to head up the Federal cavalry for the 150th event. We are looking to field a top shelf company of Federals for the event, which is held on the original battlefield on the 1st weekend of October, 2012. We will have solid standards, and they will be enforced. We will have a march, with skirmishing, to the event site on Friday, and lots of fun to be had over the weekend. Several members of the 1st Maine will be traveling out with me to form the nucleus of the company, and we're looking for all you like minded types to join us!

    Take care,
    Tom Craig

              Rob,
I told Tom 6 months ago I would go Federal with him. I might be by myself . I have not talked to others about it . Also I would like to do Unison again, but it is not as close. So I will really play Unison by ear. I sure wish y'all could come to Donelson in February.

Re: Calling Federal Cavalry for Perryville

                Jerry,
We'll be happy to have you! I can never quite decide if it's more fun to ride with you, or against you!

                Zack,
I'm hoping that we'll have a gathering of the tribes so to speak and that we can get a big ol' pile of us together to form a solid company of top flight Federal cavalry.

                Mark,
We all have to do what we have to do, but I pity you and the 7th having to fend off THIS Yankee horde!

                To all,
We have some great opportunities over the next few years to really come together for some excellent events and to really build a strong community of us mounted types that will yield great results for years to come.

Since Jerry Ross mentioned it, next year is the 150th anniversary of the battle of Unison. I've been on here crowing about this event for years, but this one will be one not to miss. It will be held the last weekend in October. It's 100% original battlefield, PRISTINE ground, serious horse country with fantastic riding and skirmishing on the real turf. Don't miss out!

                Huck,
I don't know about out west, but out here for eastern events, like Unison, we can hook you up with a really solid rental horse and all the gear you might need.

                Take care,

                  Thanks Tom

One of these days Im going to have to do an Unison event again (gee 10 miles from where I grew up, gee twist my arm). It might be easier that way than trying to fly with a saddle as a carry on.

Re: Calling Federal Cavalry for Perryville

It is good to see the recruiting going on for this event. I can promise, if one loves to do cavalry and they love to do it right then this is the don't miss event. What has got me pumped up for this is that we are not just looking at numbers, but "quality numbers". It is going to be a site to behold! Same can be said on the confederate side of things. The 2010 event was just a tease for what lies ahead in 2012. I don't want you to have to kick yourself because you missed this.

Re: Calling Federal Cavalry for Perryville

Since the CS side is getting all the love on their thread on Perryville, I thought I'd bump this up to keep it fresh.

Registration is open for the event, and plans are in the works. I am currently working on developing some new and unique living history experiences for the Federal participants. If you make it to the event, I will do my best to make it worth your time.

We've got commitments from some of the best in the game, but we've got space for more, so if you want in, let me know.

                        Take care,

                          To my Fellow Cavalrymen,

Registration is wide open for this event, and it is shaping up to be a great gig. Many members of the 1st Maine are going to make the trek west, and I hope to see lots of you folks from all over the country.

I just wanted to remind all of you of the Yankee horsey persuasion to get registered for Perryville. It is shaping up to be a great event with a lot of great people all coming together. We've got a Friday march and tactical, and some great living history activities planned through the weekend that many of you haven't had the chance to experience.

                            Take care,

Wanted to bump this up and remind all of you with a blue kit that we're putting together a top shelf crew for this event. Register early, and register often!'
