  • Southern Horsemen!! A call to Perryville!!

Since I see that Tom Craig has called out the Federals for the 150th Perryville, next October (2012), I wanted to also let you know that we have been asked to coordinate the Confederate Cavalry forces for that event.

There will be much to do with the march in as well as lots of action on the actual battlefield that now has added many acres to give us a huge area to work with. Standards are being established for the period and will be enforced as they were at "Perilous Times" and will be at Shiloh 150.As if you needed any additional motivation to join in on this, I am receiving strong intellegence reports that the "blue hordes from the north" are massing and we must defend our dear Southland from their invasion and the raping and pillaging that will undoubtedly ensue!!

    To Arms men, to arms!!

Watch for more on this in the near future.

    regards,
    Mark

Corporal Verdon reporting for duty sir! Let us drive those bluebellies back to which they came (Hell!). I didn't enlist in South Union Kentucky to watch them push us back now!

                Paul,

If my research is correct, they stopped the practice of "baby consumption" after Fredericksburg. Of course, it is well known that Sherman re-instituded it during his March to the Sea.

Keep me in the loop. It's a long drive, but maybe I can motivate a few TMD guys to want to throw in. I made the trip for the authentic contingent with the WIG and Critters back in '02 and it was well worth the trip. The highlight of the weekend was the candlelight tours. Amazing.

                          Larry,

Wasn't that the time when we slept on the ground and woke up covered with frost in the morning? And do I recall either you or Darryl getting bucked off when mounting that same morning?

Yep, that was the event. It was warm when we got there and a norther blew in Friday night and the temps dropped about 30 degrees. It rained all night and we stood around the fire all night rotating horse blankets. Me and Darryl ended up sharing a bail of hay and sleeping back to back for about an hour siting up like Forrest Gump. It was the second night that was so cold and we woke up Sunday morning covered in frost. My horse went lame and Coley brought me a loaner Walking Horse that the Infantry staff had been riding. I saddled up and made about three steps when he broke in half. I landed on top of my rifle, flat on my back. All of that free Kentucky air, and I couldn't find any of it. Coley was down at the fed infantry camp when the rodeo started. He said they were in awe. He just looked at them and said "this is what the cavalry does to wake up in the morning. What do y'all do? Drink coffee?" I was sore for a few days, but none the worse for the wear.

FYI for those wanting to register early:

The Friends of Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site will have a booth set up at the Civil War Show in Franklin, TN in two weeks. Stop by the table and you can register for the event there. We are offering a registration discount, which is only good at this show, so a good time to come out and stop by.
