WE NEED LATE WAR FEDERAL CAVALRY!!.......
Cavalrymen, Take a look at this!!!.........
I am announcing a rare opportunity to participate in a unique Civil War immersion event like non other. Historic Westville is an 1850's town made up entirely of over 30 “original” pre-Civil War buildings including a large two story courthouse, blacksmith and leather shops, several stores, cotton gin, mills, tavern, two story school house, several Antebellum homes, farm houses and two churches. All THE REAL THING and laid out as a period town on dirt streets in a remote location with NO MODERN (sight or sound) INTRUSIONS! It is simply amazing to behold. Rare opportunity? Yes, despite being a tourist attraction since the 1960's and the set for several movies this is only its third CW reenactment the caretakers have ever allowed. The first two (starting four years ago) were produced by the same folks hosting this- the third and “final” event in the trilogy. The first two events were incredible (trust me) and as close to living in the era as you will ever get!! You may NOT EVER get the chance to do this again!
As a trooper of Wilson’s Cavalry Corps, Spring 1865 you will “live” the lifestyle of a Federal cavalryman as you interact with civilians when you capture and occupy their small Southern town in southwest Georgia. At Westville you will “LIVE” in this town as if you marched in and took it over. With other civilian reenactors the town will be fully functional including operational stores, tavern, banks, law & court system, (such as it was in 1865) and society. The event will reflect the shortages of the end of the war, interactions with civilians, returning Confederate soldiers and ex-slaves as the Federal cavalry seize control, establish order and bring in the Freedmen’s Bureau, etc. There will be exciting vignettes and dramas as you play out your role in a fully immersive environment. Each reenactor will have roles to play and goals to achieve. All vignettes are choreographed and based on real life events that actually took place in this part of Georgia.
The Scenario: The scene for Wilson’s Federal Cavalry at Westville is to be set as late war (April/May 1865) to fall 1866. Picture these troops as hardened, exhausted, short tempered, care worn veterans of four months of long, hard marches, multiple but successful battles (including the destruction of the Selma and Columbus Arsenals) and skirmishes with veteran Confederate soldiers and home guards. They have had daily contact with Southern civilians as they swept across the heart of the Confederacy- much of it through towns that had never seen Yankee troops. Their interaction has been of brute force, belligerent, antagonistic, uncompromising, taking whatever they wanted and destroying public and private property as they chose. Although the war has now just ended and reconciliation is beginning taking hold, these troops are tense, short tempered. All of these men are tired of fighting, army life and just want to go home but duty requires them to remain. They generally do not like Southerners but this was not limited to just white Southerners. Despite the newfound legal rights of the former slaves, blacks too often found a hostile (or indifferent) reception especially from those Federal troopers of Kentucky and Missouri. Still, the interaction is morphing from a war footing to an occupation police force where some justice and real kindnesses are also shown. Thus the unique scenarios between the civilian and occupying (marauding) Yankee forces emanating from this kind of hardened, shortage driven, authoritative and strained interaction would be endless including alot of deprivations and conflict with civilians but also a growing understanding of a newly reunited country.

Gents,
I know that this conflicts with other great events currently being promoted in and around this same time. That is a crying shame. Nevertheless, I urge you to strongly consider Westville on your calender as you may NEVER get a chance to totally immerse yourself in a fully functioning CW town like this again.
I have been reenacting for over 25 years including some of the best reenactment events in the Civil War, Dragoon and Indian Wars era’s and I am not embellishing at all when I say that this was one of the top five finest events I have ever been to. And, it will most certainly be for you if you attend. YOU CAN DO THIS! Contact me if you have questions or are not sure how to qualify .....YOU WILL!! You may NOT EVER get the chance to get this close to the real thing nor the chance to do this again! So don’t Miss it! YOU WILL BE SORRY YOU DID!
