Re: Ordnance Issues to 1st & 2nd Battalions GA Cavalry, & 5th Georgia Cavalry Regiment

      Ok,

I went through alot of the CSR's for the regiment and I'm seeing the same things over and over again. It seems that in summer and fall of the 1863 in EVERY company the men would have been dressed like this:

      Frock Coats (Georgia issue perhaps?)
      Caps with Yellow trim
      Shoes with Leggings

How many of us would go to a Chickamauga event and see a cavalryman dressed like that and laugh? And it seems that some English equipment was still in use by the regiment at the time....very interesting impression.

Leggings like Chaps? or fake boot tops?

Leggings like a infantryman, also called "gaiters". They are a occasional item seen for C.S. troops garrisoned in SC & GA, but it's the first time I've seen them issued to cavalry.
