    Found some early war returns regarding Avery's GA Dragoons, which started out as a single company that fought at Shlioh then kept growing until it became the 12th (also called 4th) GA Cavalry in 1863. During the fall of 1862 it was also called the 23rd GA Cavalry Battalion.

    Jan. 20th 1862 (at Nashville TN for the Avery Dragoons, then an independent cavalry company that fought at Shiloh)
