I recently found this very nice, clear and amazingly candid photo of mounted western Federals in the book...WARMAN'S CIVIL WAR COLLECTIBLES, Vol. 3 (graciously given to me by my Old Pard, Dennis Landry). The book is an identification and price guide type book. The caption with the photo reads..."Outdoor CDV of three mounted Union cavalry troopers by L. W. McScholer, Weston, Missouri" and puts the value of the CDV at $2,00 - $2,500.
Anyway, if accurate, the photo is perhaps the best I have ever seen of TM Federal cavalrymen. Very candid! Note their clothing, equipments, their swagger or the way they sit their horses and so much more. The one on the left appears quite young too. Comments???
BTW, this inspired me to get off my butt and post some new photos on my web site. I just uploaded about thirty-five new photos of mounted Federals and/or Federal horses...
see www.confederatesaddles.com Then go to "Photo Galleries" and look under "Mounted Federals".
ALL FREE! Including some great shots of horse equipment, fine period horse flesh, troopers in posed and candid positions, General officer's horses... all, with great opportunities for observing the "what" and "how" of field equipments, etc. Some of these photos have been posted here before and some are un-published. I am constantly finding and uploading more excellent artifact and period photos to the site as well as putting cavalry type things on my "for sale" area so, take a look and go back often.
