Re: Ordnance Records of the 1st Louisiana Cavalry

    Will,

Can you fill me in on how these particular ORs work? I understand that some refer to equipment captured and some refer to items on hand, but in cases like these from the 1st, that are obviously not complete, what is happening? Is the unit reporting additional items not previously listed, requesting replacements, or listing what is currently on hand for a particular company or detachment? Regardless, all of this is very valuable information and you're to be commended for posting it here. Thanks!!!!

      Larry,

In this case all the records are of equipment being issued TO the the regiment from the C.S. Ordnance Dept, trying to fill whatever gaps existed in the equipment of the men.

Thanks, Will. David Bernard has done some pretty extensive research on the First as well. I think the good stuff you've posted here lately will inspire him to share it with us on this forum so we can dig a little deeper into what these guys looked like. I'd really like to know more about what horse equipments were being issued as well.
