Diggin around some old files today and came across this. Someone asked about these stirrups some time ago in another thread but I could not find the thread for a reference. Anyway, I found some info on these stirrups. I knew they were not Civil War or earlier, and, I have commonly seen them on Buena Vista saddles (also a post war saddle) but had no hard evidence. However, I found this....these were Patented in 1882 (Pat # 263,966) and called a "Rosset Block Stirrup". I am not sure about the spelling of the "Rossett" name. Anyway, they were still being offered in the 1913 Ben Schroeder Saddle Tree Co catalog #4. This company is an interesting story unto itself and was the topic of a thread here a few years ago. Here is a link about them.
Second photo: Also found a name for reference to these stirrups....."Cuban Stirrups", At least, that is how they are referenced in some late 19th and early 20th century catalogs.
Anyway, just a little info. to share so we keep the nomenclature right when referencing stirrups.
