Re: Carbine hooks, with or without link

So, based on the officer's stamp, this particular snap hook was made late war. I guess the general question that got us started is still up for more research or specualtion as to when the different models were produced or even if one replaced the other or if made at the same time. I think another thread with why would a officers inspect an item that didn't fit the requirements of the manual and put his stamp on it might be interesting as well.

Re: Carbine hooks, with or without link

Just to outline, the marked snaps all have the link. I have never seen a marked snap without the link, the only snap that I have seen in its context is on the Henry sleeve, which is referenced above

Allof the post war slings I have seen have the snap with the link.

Interestingly, here's one without the link, but marked "O.B. NORTH & CO. NEW HAVEN Ct" currently offered on eBay:

Could this be an example from one of those two late-war contracts? The missing link, perhaps? :p

Possibly - but I wonder if Francis Bannerman had any part in its existance. None the less, its the very first one I have ever seen without the link and a makers mark.

I will try to get a picture of my friends and post it just for people to see.
