A short one this morning. The 17th MS Cavalry Battalion started out as a squadron to picket the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but it was soon sent to Jackson and stayed in that area for most of 1863. In early 1864 it was combined with the 17th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion, this battalion only had 3 companies, and only one of them was of Tennesseans, the other two being from Mississippi. They had skirmished in West and Central Tennessee and North Mississippi.
