  • Marmadukes Raid- The Sequel event April 4-7th 2013

    Greetings all,

I am posting this announcment seperate from the main event page because I was wanting to bring it to the specific attention of Cavalry/Mounted reenactors. The following will be the dates for Marmadukes Raid-the sequel event: April 4-7 2013. This will be a 4 day FULL IMMERSION event (no modern talk, no modern anacronisms) held on the same ground as the first Marmaduke's Raid event a few years back. Federal, Confederate, Civilians, Partisans all needed. Any mounted types, wagoneers etc. with quality impressions , and who are willing/able and wanting to participate in an immersion event, away from the circus, contact me by PM here or via email: paddymacster@gmail.com

I highly encourage any mounted types of ALL persuasions to give serious thought to attending this event. It is an awesome setting for it and being put on by high quality folks. This is a great opportunity for that rare Mounted Trans-Miss Confederate Cavalry impression, Western Federal Cavalry, Mounted Civilian and/or Mounted Partisan impressions. All are needed/wanted. There will be ample opportunites for interaction with some of the best civilians in the Trans Miss department..............and that is all I have to say about that.

A website for the event will be up soon and I will post a link to it.
I will also pass along more information as I have it.

    Thanks All!

Just some general historical info on which this event will be based for any troopers/ mounted civilians interested :

Well, as of April 21st, 145 years ago General John S. Marmaduke started his 2nd raid into Southeast Missouri. His aim was to take steps to ...

And....some more. Thanks to Mike Comer for providing the historical information.

There has been some discussion on the COI forum about the "ad junk" events. I can assure you that this one will NOT be an adjunct event. This one is a first person immersion event from beginning to end without modern intrusions. No pampering, no ammenities, no farbs. The location is SE Missouri, which is fairly centrally located for a TMD event. The CS mounted portion has been capped at 12. If you're interested and can meet the standards (anyone on this forum who claims to be authentic should easily meet these standards), let myself or Paddy know. If you're serious about hardcore cavalry living history, then this should be the event to attend.

As Paddy said, if anyone is interested in coming as Missouri State Militia give me a shout at dan.chmelar@gmail.com. It will be a very unique impression, not your standard Fed look! We too are going to be capped at around ten. I will be sending out an email shortly to those I am looking to recruit for this escapade. If you are interested in getting in on this let me know! I was at Marmadukes Raid the first time, and let me tell ya, this is a true campaigners event.

First one was a good time. I made up the entire Confederated mounted contingent, unless you count the oxen.

As overall CS commander for this, I'll guarantee you one thing if you are CS cavalry - you're going to work.

I'd just add this - if you are considering this, you need to really concentrate on getting your horse in shape.

Good point, Mike. This isn't a reenactor's event. It is definitely a hardcore event for hardcore living historians. Troops will be issued rations, but this is going to be a flat haversack event. Patrick can chime in on any details, but this promises to be an immersion event in the truest definition of the term.

Gents, I don't usually chime in on the Cavalry folder, but the event site is very similar to the Bummers event site. Rocky and rugged. I hope this helps with your decision. I remember Mr. Talburt as the lone mounted Johnny last time. Hope to see a lot of you out there next year.
