    Update on "improved" 1853 saber:
We gave up on WWS as they were totally non responsive but we are now working with another maker who is extremely interested in getting it right. No promises but we sent him an original to copy and he is beginning the process. I will keep you all updated as this progresses

      Re: Repro 1853 British saber

      Update:
The foundry has all info needed to make a quality reproduction. Question is viability as a profit making venture. It would be helpful to poll members of this and other reenacting communities so we could provide solid data. If someone could set up a poll on this site and suggest other sites it would greatly assist in making this happen. Thanks

          Chris,
I will buy one if that is the question. I'm not the one to make the poll.

              Re: Repro 1853 British saber

              Chris,

              As a suggestion, try this:

              1) Go to Forum, 3rd Section down is entitled "NEWS"
              2) Under "NEWS" there is a category called, "AC News, Polls and Surveys"
              3) Go into this area and post a thread with a heading that would get attention. Ex: BRITISH SABRE SURVEY - Need Data quickly!
              4) Then describe what you are talking about and ask for any and all to reply as to their interest in acquiring one and set a date that you need to cut this off by (end of week, month, whatever).

I will be more than happy to help construct this if you will pm me the essence of what you want to say and the time frame that you need it by.

              Hope this helps

                    Re: Repro 1853 British saber

Wording of polls must be done somewhat carefully.

As currently stated, you're simply sampling the market at two price points, with some assumptions left unwritten. If the goal of the manufacturer is to try to guage demand, then there are a couple of ways to go about it..
                    1) "Who's in the market for an 1853 Cav Saber?" / "Who would be in the market if an 'ideal' reproduction were available?"
                    2) "How much would you pay for an 1853 cav saber?: Price 1, 2, 3, not interested, interested at 'any' price"

Thanks to everyone who responded to the Poll on the British 1853 Cavalry Saber.
It was a great response and I am hopeful that it is enough to get this done. I will keep everyone advised whatever I hear..
                      Thanks again and fingers crossed!

OK, latest. Just heard from foundry they are going to start on prototype. They figure 2 to 3 to get it right. Fingers crossed this is actually going to happen!

I'm very exciting to see this project going forward. Chris, just curious, but will the final product (and price) include a correct scabbard?
