    You may be right. I know for a fact that some Henry Rifles were getting to Unionist units in East Tennessee. Several officers of the 2nd and 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry purchased them, supposedly using funds gotten by looting Confederate sympathizing families.

      I know I'm coming into this discussion late, but it's one of the best photographs of troopers in the field that I've seen! For the weapons gurus out there, what is the carbine that the three guys in the front are carrying? They appear to be muzzle loaders but have a patch box on the stock like a Zouave or Mississippi. The faces of these guys are almost hypnotic. I swear Guy Musgrove is standing in that pic and several of these guys are barely teenagers.
